Jofre Cullell breaks his hand and will miss the rest of the World Cup

The BH Coloma Team rider Jofré Cullell will miss the last tests of the mountain biking World Cup of this year that are going to be held in the United States after undergoing surgery a fracture in the left hand.

According to his team in a statement, the Catalan cyclist suffered a blow last week while training that caused a displaced fracture of the fifth metacarpal of his left hand.

After the corresponding medical tests, the BH Coloma Team rider underwent surgery last week at the Hospital Universitari General de Catalunya and is now at home, where he has begun the recovery process.

Cullell will not be able to travel to the World Cup events that will be held in Soldier Hollow (Utah) and Lake Placid (New York).

This injury practically closes a season in which Cullell, the best Spanish cross-country mountain bike specialist, had gone from less to more and as best results he had achieved the national title in the short distance and 19th place in the World Cup classification.

Furthermore, his overall results for the year had placed him in 14th place in the world rankings.

However, after a good start to the season in recent months it seemed doomed to misfortune, with the Spanish Championship – in the long distance – as the main example. He was the favorite for the title, but in the initial part one of the circuit’s tapes got caught in a wheel and forced him to stop to fix it, so in the end he had to make a great effort to finish sixth.

In other World Cup races he also suffered problems and now the most serious one has arrived, an injury that has taken him to the operating room.

This circumstance also occurs at a time when valuable points are at stake for the Paris Olympic Games so that the Spanish team is among the group of countries with the most runners in the race.

Right now Spain is sixth in the country classification thanks, mainly, to the points of Thibaut Francoise (1,319) and Cullell (1,230), while the next runner to score is Alejandro García with 664.
