Joao Fonseca, in unstoppable mode: streak of 12 consecutive wins and one step away from the Australian Open

Joao Fonseca He is, without a doubt, the most important young revelation that tennis has had in the last year. The Brazilian, only 18 years old, has an undefeated record that commands respect and is on his way to entering his first Grand Slam tournament, directly from the qualy.
Born in 2006, the South American tennis player’s explosion occurred in 2024. There he started the year at No. 730 and ended it at No. 145. In between, he was champion in the Lexington Challenger and finalist in Asunción. In addition, he played several tournaments at the ATP level with a quarterfinal at the ATP 500 in Rio (he beat Cristian Garin and Arthur Fils) and at the ATP 250 in Bucharest (Lorenzo Sonego was his most notable victim).
All these achievements made it possible to qualify for the Next-Gen FINals which took place in Jeddah (Saudi Arabia). In Arab lands, Fonseca broke all the odds and won all four matches: Arthur Fils, Learner Tien twice (he was the rival in the final) and Jakub Mensik.
And as if that were not enough, it dragged the victorious momentum of the end of 2024 with the new energies of 2025. As soon as he debuted in the Canberra Challenger, he continued his streak of victories and won a new trophy in his career. What stands out about this trophy is that in five matches, it did not lose sets.
After that achievement he arrived in Melbourne to compete in the qualy of the Australian Open. Far from being intimidated by the stage, Joao Fonseca continued with his overwhelming tennis and crossed the first two stages. In the first, the Argentine Federico Gómez was killed and in the second, the Hong Konger Coleman Wong. The funny thing is that he didn’t lose sets either and he won a set from both of them 6-0.
The last test to qualify for the main draw of the 2025 Australian Open has a first and last name: Thiago Tirante. The Argentine will be the one who tries to lower the young Brazilian’s clean and jerk and cut off the fantastic undefeated record he has.
