The young Brazilian Joao Fonseca18 years old and ranked 112th in the ATP ranking, gave the big surprise in the Australian Open 2025 by defeating the world number 9, the Russian Andrey Rublevwith partials of 7-6 (1), 6-3 and 7-6 (3).

Fonseca He arrived at Melbourne Park with an impressive streak of 16 consecutive victories between the end of 2024 and the beginning of the new year: he was already crowned champion of the Canberra Challenger, without giving up a single set and last December he established himself as the youngest champion of the Next Gen Finals.

This is the first time that Fonseca participates in a Grand Slam main draw.
