Jasikevicius’ most culé wink after beating Zalgiris: “Let’s go see Barça”
Saras Jasikevicius’s Fenerbahce scored a new victory this season in the Euroleague, this time at home against one of ‘their’ teams, Zalgiris Kaunas, by a comfortable 99-80. In this way, the Turkish team achieved its fourth victory of the season in Europe and placed third in the overall table, only behind the undefeated Panathinaikos and a Valencia Basket that succumbed in extra time to the current champion.
However, after a peaceful night on the court, Jasikevicius starred in what was one of the moments of the night in the press conference after the clash against Zalgiris. And just at that moment, his other team, Barça, was in the middle of its UEFA Champions League match against Fenerbahce’s biggest rival, Galatasaray, whom they easily beat 1-4 in the ‘Turkish hell’.
It’s no secret: Saras has never hidden his love for the Barça colors and he claimed this at the press conference, when after answering a question, no one else in the room raised their hand to ask another question to the Lithuanian coach, something that led Jasikevicius to say goodbye in a hurry to see ‘his’ Barça and leaving behind one of the fun scenes of the day.
“Great, thanks friends. I’m going to watch the Barça game,” Saras said at a press conference, causing laughter from the journalists in attendance in the room.
At the same time that Barça was finishing its match against Galatasaray, the Barça team, which he coached from 2020 to 2023, also played its corresponding match at the Palau against Maccabi, which ended with victory for the culé team by a tight 90-87 thanks to a decisive triple by Justin Robinson.
