Infantino returns to the charge and accuses

The president of FIFA, Gianni Infantinohas called for closing the gap between the major football powers and the rest of the world, and has stated that the International Federation is committed to providing the best possible “opportunities, access and resources” so that more teams can compete globally.

Infantino made these statements after a meeting held in the Dominican Republic with representatives of the federations of the Caribbean Football Union (CFU), in which he gathered the support of this organization that is part of Concacaf, a confederation that has been very critical of the leader because of the FIFA Forward Enterprise (FFE) initiative, the proposal to sell to private investors a 20% share of the commercial rights of FIFA tournaments, including the World Cup.

“It is important to participate, engage in dialogue, express points of view and opinions; a lot has happened in recent weeks and it is important to listen, to pay attention and to also be able to express what you feel. So, in general, I think it is something positive; I am very, very happy with all the support I receive here,” he said in an interview with the media. FIFA.

Infantino stated that the organization he presides must work to “make football grow in each” of the 211 countries that make up FIFA and criticized the attitude of the great powers, without expressly citing UEFA, the organization most critical of his management.

“Some, unfortunately, do not need or want others to grow, but we have to reduce this gap between large, very large countries, and all the others.”he highlighted.

“The big guys are doing a great job, and we praise them and congratulate them, and obviously they should also continue to grow, but we have to give a chance to everyone else. We have to find investments for everyone else, opportunities for everyone else,” he said.

In his opinion, “it is, in fact, about finding and offering opportunities, access and resources to world football. That is what we have been trying to do in the last ten years and also in the last ten weeks, and what we will continue to do in the coming years,” he added.

The FIFA leader affirmed that everything they do “goes through the corresponding FIFA processes and will be decided democratically by the member federations, the Council and the relevant bodies, always in strict compliance and respect” of their rules and regulations, said Infantino, who at the Rabat congress on March 18 will run for a fourth term in elections in which, for the moment, he is the only candidate.
