Honda sends a clear message to Alonso’s Spanish fans: “We will continue to aspire to something even bigger”

Koji Watanabe, president of Honda Racing Corporation (HRC), spoke to Mundo Deportivo in an exclusive interview at the F1 Dutch GP, last weekendin which he wanted to send a direct and clear message to the Spanish fans when MD asked him to.

The boss of the competition division of the historic Japanese brand, after talking about the progress he expects from the Japanese engine for the year 2027, the future of Fernando Alonso and the internal improvement of its F1 engine department, addressed the Spanish fans directly.

“Yes, this is very important,” he said when receiving the question from this newspaper. And then, he sent a message to all the Spanish fans of Fernando Alonso, words full of optimism for the future in which one could glimpse the effort that all the employees of the Sakura factory and its headquarters in Great Britain are making to progress after a very bad and disappointing start of its power unit together with Aston Martin in 2026.

‘Your support gives us strength, so thank you to the Spanish fans for your support and encouragement’he said at the beginning of his response.

It is clear that right now we are not in the position we want to be in, but first we are going to compete again and recover a competitive state

“It is clear that right now we are not in the position we want to be in, but first we are going to return to competing and recover a competitive state, and then we will continue working to aspire to something even bigger,” said Watanabe, confident that Honda already has all the ingredients to take important steps forward in 2027 and certain that the new engine presented in Zandvoort can be the starting point for its evolution.
