Honda points out two key points for Alonso: “Interlagos is another high altitude circuit. Not as severe as Mexico, but it is still a factor to take into account for our engine”
He Formula 1 Mexican GP It was a real ordeal for Fernando Alonso and Aston Martin when Friday pointed to a good weekend. However, the engine Sling It meant a host of problems for the Asturian that ruined his classification first and Sunday’s race later with only six races played. The problem was that the pressure levels of the power unit were not adequate.
The height of the Hermanos Rodríguez Autódromo was a challenge for all the engines and Honda was not up to the task. The problem for the Japanese is that, with no room for maneuver, the Brazilian GP arrives and the Interlagos circuit is also in an elevated position with respect to sea level.
For this reason, in the preview of the Japanese manufacturer, Shintaro Orihara, Honda chief engineerwarned that it will once again be a complicated challenge and that, in addition, we will have to be prepared for large storm situations.
“Interlagos is another circuit with a high altitude. It is not as severe as in Mexico City, but remains a factor to take into account for the power unit“, explained the Japanese.
“We have to be prepared for potential heavy rain. In wet conditions, power unit drivability becomes a key area to adapt to grip conditions. It’s about finding the balance between pickup and turbo lag,” Orihara concluded.
Alonso has not scored points since the Bahrain GP that was held in Malaysia. In Austin it seemed that the team was taking a step forward but a bad strategy left it unable to fight to enter that TOP10. In Mexico a step back was taken in terms of reliability.
Therefore, if you want to end this triplet with a slightly sweeter taste, Brazil is the last bullet. The engine is always an important factor because to overtake acceleration is key with the last corner turning and the two straights, the finish line and the one after Senna’s S, are the best overtaking points.
