Gonzalo Gutiérrez Taboada after winning the National Club Championship: "The challenge comes now"

Newman prevailed over Marist by 38-15 and got the National Clubs by first time in its history. After the meeting, he spoke with Scrum, Gonzalo Gutiérrez Taboada. All rugby, on Disney+ Premium Plan.

The back gave his feelings about 2025: “An incredible end to the year. We crowned it in a spectacular way. A dream year for the entire club, we got the Intermediate, the Pre, not even in the best dream of any person from Newman could a year like this be dreamed of. It is the result of a lot of work and I hope it is the beginning of something spectacular. The challenge comes now, we have to keep putting in and working. The difficult thing is to keep up. We have to turn the page to continue like this. I loved how we took this game, the first half was hard, but in the second it opened up for us and we took it we carry.”

Regarding the meeting, he indicated: “This was another opportunity to continue growing. They have a team, they won the TDI and the Mendoza tournament, through the pack we subdued them and in the end we prevailed calmly.”

In turn, he talked about the next season and if he will be part of it: “We have to continue building and working. Next year another championship starts, Newman’s work is deeper than winning a championship. We have to make the club grow on this path. I am going to continue next season. I am going to take advantage of these months to disconnect my head, the team and the squad are fine.”

Finally, he dedicated a few words to his partner Marcelo Brandi who played his last game with the Cardinal: “We are going to miss Chelo a lot, he deserved to leave like this. After seeing him disconsolate when I missed the kick in last season’s semifinal, I told him to stay because it was going to happen to us. And it happened to us, he leaves through the front door, with this beautiful madness. He is a person who taught us what love for Newman is, he deserves it for what he transmits and fights for this club. I am happy to have fought so much alongside him.”
