Gino Trappa: “Franco Colapinto boom made international motor racing in Argentina”
The 17 -year -old Argentine spoke with AM850.com about his consecration in F4 Central Europe, future plans and how he had the presence of Alpine pilot in the highest category. He lives alone in Madrid and studies the last year of school.
“Maybe I connect five minutes late because I am in class,” Gino Trappa warns to AM850.com about the moment of joining the virtual talk. The Argentine has just consecrated champion of Formula 4 Central Europe with the Jenzer team, after winning six of the 18 races played in six weekends. Born in San Isidro on 4/17/2008, he is still of school age. When it finally connects from Jerez de la Frontera, where this weekend the fifth date of the Spanish F4 will run, he told how he comes with school: “They are private classes because every week I have to answer things from the school that they say that you are reading the material and paying attention. I am in the last year in a school called Ceade, which is online and is good because it is the only one approved in Argentina to deliver the graduate title. It is very complete. made very complicated, ”says Gino.
The last year of College has as a strawberry the trip of graduates. In Argentina, the usual place is Bariloche, but Trappa will not be able to live the experience. “I miss a lot of things. I would have loved to go to Bariloche from graduate because I go every year and I see them the boys. I had it very pending in my head. I expected the trip of my colleagues from the previous school to fall in a week that had no career and did not happen. So I did what I could with a small group of friends. ”
Trappa lives alone in Madrid. From there he had to travel this year to Czech, Slovakia and Austria, the three places where he competed with the F4 Central Europe, which closed his 2025 agenda in Brno. “I am super happy to have closed the work of the whole year with the title, beyond that the last race was difficult. This F4 championship is the only one that runs in more than two countries and that makes it special. It is a great achievement for my career and I hope to take advantage and do my best in what is coming and that learning serves me. Now I have the last three dates of the Spanish championship, ”says Trappa, who exceeded nine points to the Czech Max Karhan, also a Jenzer pilot.
-How was the fight for the title with your rivals?
-The who was second in the tournament had been in the category for three years and was very experienced (NDER: Karhan). That three -year difference is felt because in the category there are no previous tests and every time it reached a race weekend it was a new track for the vast majority and not for him. And my other teammates were super fast and talented (NDER: Mexicans Nicolás Cortes and Javier Herrera). I was able to make a difference at the beginning, which I could labox later to stay in front of them.
-Of the circuits you visited, which one did you like the most and which one that complicated you the most?
-We were Red Bull Ring, where Formula 1 runs, and I loved it, it’s crazy and overcome my expectations. And the other that surprised me for its quality and the fun of the path is Slovakia Ring. Those two are the ones that I liked the most. And the one that complicated me the most was the last, Brno. The layout is not so bad, but it is made for motorcycles. Then, all the curves are equal, fourth and the only two that are not fourth, are fifth. He is monotonous and weird. And to run it is very bad, it has the same chances of passing cars as Monaco. Because in those high speed curves it is impossible to carry it behind another car. Nor that you are mistaken.
-After this title, where do you sign up for 2026?
-It is good to clarify something. I was champion of F4 and the next step for many should be the F3, but it is not. There are few who do and those who did not work well. There is a step in the middle, the F4 is the fifth. The following can be frequent, EUROCUP-3, GB3 or Euroformula. They have very similar cars, some aerodynamic or motor things change, but in the end they have the same power. They have 100 horses more than the F4 and greater aerodynamic load. I want to use the title plate to get a place in a better and better facilities equipment. On that step run in the circuits that visit the F1 and adds experience to better enter the F3. I prefer the Eurocup-3, who many times runs with the ESAPÑOLA and DRIVEX F4 has a team there.
-Is the budget complicated or quiet?
-Of that part you never know how you are. You never get calm. Luckily we could get it for the F4, but when climbing the staircase becomes more demanding in the monetary. We are looking for support from companies around the world, but more than anything from Argentina.
-The arrival of Franco Colapinto to the F1 pushes for those who are in lower categories?
-Yes, the Boom of Colapinto revived motoring abroad in Argentina. It was always on the TC, but interest increased outside. And Franco made that possible by proveing that it is possible, beyond that the F1 is a very select group and that there are barely 20 places. And there are always 15 or 16 established and that makes it even more difficult. Therefore, Franco showed that it is possible and leads the boys that we are below to have more exposure and motivation, because sometimes it looks as far away.
-It is obvious to say that your dream is to reach F1, right?
-You have clarify that it depends on many things. My goal is to get to F3 and with that I will be more than happy. Obviously I point up and do my best, it is my goal since I was a child and I hope to do a great job.
