Germany beat Luxembourg and was one step away from qualifying for the 2026 World Cup
Germany expired 2-0 to Luxembourg with a doublet of Nick Woltemade at Stade de Luxembourg, for the fifth date of the Group 1 of the UEFA qualifiers heading to World Cup 2026. The match can be revive with the Disney+ Premium Plan (only for South America).
Visitors started with a dull image. In the first minutes it was difficult for him to impose conditions, he showed little clarity in attack and even suffered several attacks from the local team, who took advantage of the spaces and created danger with Sinani, Dardari and Barreiro. The Teutons barely responded with some isolated attempts by Wirtz and Gnabry, but without precision in the definition. Luxembourg even had more determination in the final meters and forced several corners.
Already at the beginning of the second half, Germany found the difference: in the 49th minute, Nick Woltemade appeared in the center of the area to score with his left foot and make it 1-0. Before, Luxembourg had warned with a shot from Christopher Martins and also made a variation with the entry of Marvin Martins.
As the minutes passed, Germany began to handle the ball more and find spaces against an opponent that was no longer pressing with the same intensity. Pavlovic tried from outside, Sané hit the crossbar with a shot and Nagelsmann moved the bench to add fresh legs. Luxembourg, for its part, also made changes but continued to suffer from each German transition.
The key moment arrived at 69 minutes: again Woltemade, the figure of the match, scored the second German goal with a cross shot from the right after an assist from Ridle Baku. That 2-0 score put the victory on track for a Germany that had started badly, but in the second half managed to impose its hierarchy, control the process and close the match without any problems.
In the final stretch, Germany even had clear opportunities to increase the score, such as Sané’s shot against the crossbar and some approaches from Schade and Leweling, but they lacked the efficiency to transform the superiority into a rout. Anyway, The 2-0 score allows them to be well on their way to the last day of the Qualifiers: against Northern Ireland, a victory could seal their qualification for the World Cup.
