¡Argentina’s first victory at the Australian Open arrived! Francisco Cerúndolo (No. 31 in the ATP ranking) beat the Kazakh Alexander Bublik (No. 37) with partial scores of 7-6 (1), 6-3 and 6-2 to access the second round.

Cerúndolo had a good performance, from low to high, comfortably handling a difficult match against the unpredictable Asian. The South American’s numbers? Six aces35 winners and 16 unforced errors.

The 26-year-old from Buenos Aires, who surpassed his compatriot Sebastián Báez (28th) in the virtual ranking, also added his first win of the seasonafter his failed attempt at the ATP 250 in Auckland, where he lost in straight sets against the Spanish Roberto Carballés Baena (57th).

In 2023 had said goodbye to Melbourne Park in third round and in 2024 in the second instance. This season, much more established in the circuit and with more experience, he will try to obtain his personal best in the competition.

In the next round he waits for his compatriot Facundo Díaz Acosta (N°73) or the Belgian Zizou Bergs (No. 60).
