Fonseca will seek his first ATP 500 in Basel and stretch Davidovich Fokina’s spell in the finals

A new final is defined in the professional circuit. On this occasion, the Basel ATP 500which will have several condiments that make it an extremely attractive duel: Alejandro Davidovich Fokina (18th in the world ranking) and Joao Fonseca (46th)face to face in search of the Swiss trophy.

In the first instance, Davidovich Fokina will seek to leave behind the ghosts of the past, which link him to the finals on the circuit: the Spaniard will compete in the fourth of the season and the fifth in his entire career. Unlike his rival, the young South American talent already has a trophy at the ATP level, at this year’s Argentina Open, when he beat Francisco Cerúndolo in the final. This passage to the last day of action in Basel makes him the first player from his country to reach a final above the ATP 250 level since Gustavo Kuerten in Indian Wells 2003.

Virtually, Fonseca is already ranked 34th on the planet, also being the best of his life. If he manages to beat the Spaniard, he will rise to 28°. The history between the two? In favor of Joao 1-0, after winning the 2025 Masters 1000 Cincinnati.

The final of the ATP 500 in Basel will take place this Sunday, October 26, no earlier than 11:30 a.m. (Argentina and Chile), 9:30 a.m. (Colombia and Peru) and 8:30 a.m. (Mexico).
