Fight between Braves and Angels; Soler and López are expelled

Jorge Soler, of Angels, and Reynaldo López, of Braves, are expelled after emptying the benches in a fight between Atlanta and Los Angeles


ANAHEIM, California — The pitcher of Atlanta Braves, Reynaldo Lopezand the designated hitter of Los Angeles Angels, Jorge Solerwere expelled after star a fight between both players on Tuesday night.

Soler charged to the mound after Lopez threw a high, punchy fastball that grazed Jonah Heim’s glove in the bottom of the fifth inning.

At first, Lopez raised his hands as they both stared at each other, before both began throwing punches. The benches emptied as players from both teams tried to separate the two contenders. He manager of atlanta, Walt Weisswas one of those who knocked down Soler.

Lopez was holding the baseball when he landed a punch on Soler’s batting helmet.

Soler had hit a home run off López in his first at-bat, and was subsequently hit by a pitch in his second at-bat. The Braves were leading 4-2 when the altercation occurred.

Lopez pitched 4⅔ innings, allowing two earned runs and three hits, with seven strikeouts. Soler finished with a home run and two RBIs.

The Angels won 6-2 on Monday in the first game of the three-game series.
