FIFA reiterates its support for Infantino in a statement but recognizes that “mistakes were made”

The FIFA issued a statement after the crisis meeting held in Rabat (Morocco) with senior officials and showed its support for Gianni Infantino despite what happened this last week after presenting his proposal to privatize his competitions, something that he had to back down from and for which his cessation is being requested.

At the meeting, in which according to The Times Morocco was promised that the final of the 2030 World Cup would be at the Hassan II stadium in Casablanca to guarantee its support, something that FIFA itself denied, the current situation was discussed and “the magnificent work of the FIFA administration was recognized, which guaranteed success in the organization of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. It would not have been possible without the collaboration of the president, the secretary general and the administration of FIFA, who “They worked as a team and were in total harmony.”

“To clarify any doubt, the secretary and members of the FIFA board of directors present at the meeting reaffirm their full support for FIFA president Gianni Infantinowho is the only person elected by the 211 member federations of FIFA”, indicates the statement, which adds that “in turn, the president of FIFA reiterates his full support to the secretary general and the administration for their work, as necessary as it is exceptional, in the implementation of his vision.”

“We are convinced that the results of today’s meeting will strengthen FIFA’s governance, will contribute to restoring confidence in the organization and will allow us to prepare, with unity and transparency, for the great events and challenges that await us,” he concluded, recognizing that “Mistakes were made in the proposal to create FIFA Forward Enterprise. It was never our intention for the FIFA Council and member associations to feel excluded from the process. A different process should have been followed. Please accept our most sincere apologies. We promise that it will not happen again.”
