European rebellion against Infantino: Al-Khelaïfi and other names already sound like an alternative
The final has not yet been played and the leadership of Gianni Infantino He is already in the center of the storm. In recent hours, strong criticism of his management has emerged and, for the first time in a coordinated manner, candidates with real support appear to challenge him for the presidency of FIFA in the November elections.
As revealed by journalist Ben Jacobs in TalkSPORT, several UEFA federations – including those of Belgium and Poland – would be willing to support Nasser Al-Khelaïfipresident of Paris Saint-Germain, as a candidate to stop the continuity of Infantino.
In parallel, senior football leaders from Bosnia, Norway, Sweden, Germany and Spain have held talks to promote other European options, among which the name of Dariusz Mioduskiowner of the Warsaw Legia.
Although during his almost ten years at the head of FIFA Infantino has faced recurring criticism, its position has never been so threatened. The current trigger has been the scandal involving the United States team. Infantino received a call from the president donald trump in which he asked him to review the red card shown to the striker Folarin Balogun. The sanction was eventually suspended, prompting a harsh reaction from UEFA, which accused FIFA of “crossing a red line.”

Despite the European unrest, it is not clear that this opposition can prosper. Infantino maintains strong support in other confederations. His proposals to expand the World Cup to 64 teams and hold the Club World Cup every two years have the majority support of the CAF (Africa), CONCACAF (Central and North America) and the Asian Confederation (AFC). These projects, which imply a significant increase in income and matches, are especially attractive for the federations of these continents.
The battle for control of world football has just begun.
