A painful image occurred in the middle of the semi-final of the Stockholm ATP 250. Holger Rune, who had his match against Ugo Humbert on track, retired with an injury to his left leg (it would be the Achilles tendon) and the Frenchman qualified for the final of the tournament.

The Dane made a bad move with his left ankle with a lead of 6-4 and 2-2, when 83 minutes had been played, and he left the field limping, jumping and helped by a member of his team wrapped in tears.

Humbert, meanwhile, who had lost the five previous matches against his rival, entered the tenth final of his career to try to increase his record to eight titles. the second in 2025 after Marseille.

The withdrawal distances Rune, eleventh in the ATP ranking, from the race towards the ATP Finals, although for him his health will come first and being able to play again in 2024 would be a miracle.

The Frenchman, who beat a Top 20 for the first time in 2025, became the second from his country, along with Alexander Muller, to reach more than one final on the circuit so far this season.

The winner of the clash between the Canadian Denis Shapovalov and the Norwegian Casper Ruud will face for the title in a tournament which for the first time since 1984 has had the top four seeds in the semifinals.
