Del Toro is hunted in the final part of a Gran Piemonte that Godon takes

The French Dorian Godon (Netcompany-Ineos) won this Thursday the Greater Piemontea career marked by attack by Mexican Isaac del Toro (UAE), who stood out before the Giro de Lombardia, the last monument of the season that will be held this Saturday. Godon won the sprint at the end of this 181 km semi-classic, surpassing the Danish Anthon Charmig and to Italian Alberto Bettiol to add his 23rd professional victory, the seventh of the year.

Godon, 30, is the first Frenchman to win the Gran Piemonte – formerly known as the Giro del Piedmont – since Richard Virenque in 1996. “The route was less difficult than last year and the weather was goodbut I didn’t feel very well. My team did a magnificent job. I gave everything after the last corner, but it was difficult to maintain the lead until the end,” said Godon, who had fallen behind on the last difficulty, La Morra, before managing to get back on track.

The Italian roads are good for French cyclists, who since Sunday have won three of the four preparatory races for the Giro di Lombardia: Paul Lapeira won the Coppa Agostoni, Noa Isidore the Coppa Bernocchi and Godon the Gran Piemonte.

For its part, Del Toro —winner of the test last year—proved that It will have to be taken into account for the Giro de Lombardiadespite having warned before the start that he had been feeling pain in his knee since the 2026 World Cup. The Mexican, third in the 2026 Tour de France, launched an attack 18 kilometers from the finish line in La Morra, the main difficulty of the route. Only New Zealander Finn Fisher-Black managed to follow him at first and both riders soon built up a fifteen-second lead.

Subsequently, Del Toro dropped Fisher-Black just before the summit of La Morra, 13 km from the finish line, although he managed to rejoin the descent. They had a lead of 26 seconds, but they were caught up by the peloton 1.5 km from the finish and the Mexican entered the back of the peloton, eighty-second.. In the absence of his leader Tadej Pogačar—injured since the Vuelta a España—Del Toro is among the favorites for the Giro de Lombardia, an event in which he finished fifth last year.
