Cristiano Ronaldo and a last ‘last dance’ with Portugal

Portugal committed today to pay tribute to Cristiano Ronaldo, who on Thursday, at 41 years old, unexpectedly announced his retirement from the national team, putting an end to 234 games and 146 as an international, a month and a half after leaving the concentration due to disagreements with the coach Jorge Jesus.

Pedro Proençapresident of the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF), promised to pay tribute to Cristiano Ronaldo’s contribution, although he did not confirm whether the star will agree to play a farewell match.

Pedro Proença, president of the Portuguese Football Federation, during today’s press conferenceEFE

““No tribute will ever be enough to thank him for everything he has done for Portuguese football, for Portugal.”declared Proença before Jorge Jesus announced the call for the next Nations League matches against Wales and Denmark. “We will do everything we can to honor the legacy he leaves us. “Everything he has done deserves to be honored and celebrated.”

Respect for the decision

Proença said that he, Jorge Jesus and all FPF staff respect the star’s decision and praised his leadership and influence on generations of Portuguese footballers.

“The best way to honor and pay tribute to him is to honor his limitless ambition. Always play to win. “Never be afraid to be the best in the world.”he commented. “Thank you for everything, Captain. This is and always will be your home.”

Now it remains to be seen if Cristiano Ronaldo will accept a farewell match, a ‘last dance’ like the one he starred in. Leo Messi on October 6 in a friendly against Benin at the River Plate stadium to put an end to his glorious career with the Argentine national team.
