Coco Gauff (No. 4 in the WTA ranking) surfed a complicated wave at the Miami Open. After a start in which she walked on the ledge, the American managed to recover to turn the result around and take the victory over her compatriot Alycia Parks (105th) by 3-6, 6-0 and 6-1 in 1h 50min of action to get into the round of 16 for the fourth time in his career.
After a difficult start to the match in which she once again faced complications with her serve, an event that had occurred in her debut in the competition, the 22-year-old local woman used her category to overcome the score from the second half of the match.
Facing a tennis player whom she had already beaten on a previous occasion, she managed to overcome the difficulties that arose on the court and, after almost two hours of action, she won by 3-6, 6-0 and 6-1, which made her reach the round of 16 for the fourth time in her career.
Gauff reached this stage after a hard-fought victory against Elisabetta Cocciarettowhere he managed to overcome an adverse score despite having recorded 11 double faults.
The first American racket is looking to recover her best physical and tennis level, especially after discomfort in her left forearm forced her to miss the Indian Wells tournament.
Parks, meanwhile, reached the third round after pulling off one of the biggest surprises of the tournament by eliminating Maria Sakkari in straight sets. The player ranked No. 105 in the WTA ranking showed extremely aggressive tennis that, however, she could not replicate in the match with her compatriot.
In the next round, looking for her best result in Florida, she will face the Romanian Sorana Cirstea (35th). The only previous meeting, which occurred in the second round of the 2020 Australian Open, was in the hands of the American.
