Changes to Team Sinner? Darren Cahill warned: “My future is in your hands: if Jannik wants, I will stay”
months ago, Jannik Sinner (1st) announced that his coach Darren Cahill had made the decision to retire and, for that reason, this would be their last season as a team. However, a bet in the middle of the year changed the panorama and now, from Turin, The Australian warned: “I am a man of my word, we made a pact at Wimbledon. My future is in your hands: if you want, I will stay.”
The successful alliance was born in 2022 but ended up positioning itself between 2024-2025, adding four Grand Slam titles, making history by becoming the first Italian to reach number one in the world, winning the Davis Cup twice and sweeping almost two dozen tournaments around the world.
However, when everything was going well, the 24-year-old tennis player surprisingly announced that this would be the last season of the Australian coach, who knew how to guide his compatriot Lleyton Hewitt, the American Andre Agassi and the Romanian Simona Halep in the week, and had already made the decision to retire at 60.
Seeking to avoid it, the right-hander, who must win the ATP Finals to maintain the top of the men’s ranking, found the solution in a pact just before the Wimbledon final: “We made a bet before the final. He (Darren Cahill) said: ‘If you win tomorrow, you will decide if I stay or go.’ Now the decision is mine. I have always looked for an honest person, who will teach me not necessarily about tennis but also about life.”
With the deal made and just a few days before the end of the season, the prestigious coach has responded about his continuity in Team Sinner: “I am a man of my word, we made a pact at Wimbledon. My future is in your hands: if Jannik wants, I will stay.”
All the ATP Finals activity can be followed LIVE, and exclusively, on the AM850 and Disney+ Premium Plan screens.
