Carlos Sainz: “It’s all been very strange”
Carlos Sainz finished the 2026 F1 Brazilian GP in 19th place, with no options to fish in a troubled river in complicated conditions due to the poor performance of his car, especially in the first round of the race, with intermediate tires that did not work and that collapsed very quickly.
It didn’t even help the Spaniard to make a good start, because his car didn’t have the pace to fight for points against his rivals.
“It has been a very strange race, complicated by the conditions, but above all, on a personal level, it has been very strange, because in the first session I didn’t have any rhythm and I have degraded the front tire a lot and we have to understand the reason“commented the Madrid native.
“Because then, in the last stint, with the intermediate rubber, I went much faster. And then, a race with a lot of traffic, a lot of blue flags, and it is very complicated because we are going so slow that they turn us, then the wheels cool down, then you heat it up again, they turn you again, and in the situation in which we are racing right now it is very complicated,” he added on ‘DAZN’.
The truth is that today I learned a lot, because I had such a complicated first stint, I didn’t understand anything about why the intermediate tire wasn’t working, and then I started trying things towards the end of the race that seem to have worked for me.
“You have to keep learning. The truth is that today I learned a lot, because I had such a complicated first stint, I didn’t understand anything about why the intermediate tire wasn’t working, and then I started trying things towards the end of the race that seemed to have worked for me and I was able to go a little better. But everything was very strange, really. A complicated weekend, but I’m sure we’ll be able to understand things,” he explained.
We are too slow in the wet, in the dry, with slick tires, in mixed conditions and in complete wet conditions. There’s nothing we can do
Before the written press, as reported by ‘Motorsport.com’, the Spaniard was forceful when referring to the performance of his car.
“It has nothing to do with the set-up of our car. We are simply too slow in the wet, in the dry, on slick tyres, in mixed conditions and in full wet conditions. There is nothing we can do, so I don’t think we could have achieved any better results,” he explained.
