Carla Suárez will continue to lead the Spanish Billie Jean King Cup team. The Spanish Tennis Federation announced this Tuesday the renewal of the former Canarian tennis player for the next three seasons, in the period 2027-2029.

“I am very happy for the trust of the president and his team. For me, too, the trust that the players have shown me has been a priority, and I am happy to see them evolve and the commitment they are making with this team,” explained the captain, who will complete a five-year cycle in the team.

The 38-year-old former Spanish champion took over from Anabel Medina in 2025. In the first two years that she has been in charge of the women’s national team, she has managed to qualify the team for the Billie Jean King Cup Finals in Shenzhen, placing it among the eight best in the world.

This 2026, in addition, the Spanish Iberdrola Tennis Team reached the semifinals 18 years after having achieved it for the last time in 2008.

“Having a captain of Carla’s level is not easy. For us it is lucky because she was Top-10 as a player, and she transmits to the team that tranquility and tennis wisdom that she has. For a captaincy it is something important, in addition to the respect that the players have for it,” said Miguel Díaz Román, top leader of Spanish tennis.
