Buse strikes down Medvedev at the Paris Masters
The Peruvian Ignacio Buse achieved the feat of defeating the Russian Daniil Medvedev in the second round of the Paris Masters 1,000, 6-4, 6-4, to qualify for the first time in his career for the round of 16 of a tournament of this category.
The 22-year-old tennis player, current world number 33, defeated for the first time a top-10 tennis player, a Medvedev, winner of Paris in 2020 and current world number 5, who was on a good streak, with only three defeats since September, a period in which he qualified at least for the semifinals of the five tournaments he played and won those in Hangzhou and Almaty.
The Russian is also the tennis player who has played the most matches on hard courts this season, 41.
The Peruvian was not intimidated, the first to defeat a top-10 since 2008 Luis Horna defeated the Frenchman Richard Gasquet in Rome.
Buse, the first Peruvian to win a match at the Paris Masters 1,000, will compete for a place in the quarterfinals against the winner of the duel between the Russian Karen Khachanov and the Portuguese Nuno Borges.
