Miguel Borja was a protagonist for the worse in the defeat of River in view of Gymnastics and Fencing of La Plata (0-1) for the 14th date of Zone B of the Closing Tournament 2025which gave a vital victory to Lobo 20 years after the last one at the Monumental and filled Marcelo Gallardo’s team with doubts ahead of the Superclásico against Boca in La Bombonera.

The Colombian forward missed his decisive chance at 60! of the second halfwhen Lobo’s goalkeeper, Insfrán, blocked a penalty that could have meant a tie and, although with criticism, a little more calm.

When the 45′ of the second half were over, referee Nazareno Arasa gave 9 additional minutes. But at 54′, when Gallardo’s team was playing its last chip, Suso committed a debatable penalty against Martínez Quarta by taking it and falling with it to the ground, which gave the locals the opportunity to tie from twelve steps.

The referee was called by the VAR and saw it again, considering that the fall could have occurred because the River defender was the one who took the Gimnasia defender – and not the other way around – but he maintained his decision and gave Borja the chance.

The Colombian, who had already prepared himself to kick three minutes before, cooled down and executed to his right. The goalkeeper guessed the intention and drowned out the goal shout, in a Monumental stadium heated by the insults and annoyance of the millionaire audience present.

Once the penalty was covered, the referee marked the end of the match and River’s fourth consecutive fall at home.
