Bombshell: Mac McClung, the king of NBA dunks, could play in Girona
The king of NBA dunks heads to the ACB, and more specifically to Girona. According to journalist Chema de Lucas, the three-time champion of the All-Star Dunk Contest, Mac McClung, is in negotiations with the FIATC Girona.
McClung’s is a fascinating and bizarre story. The US base in Virginia 27 years and 1.88 has recently entered NBA history for being the first to win three consecutive victories in the Dunk Contest. His consecutive victories in 2023, 2024 and 2025 also equaled him in the record with Nate Robinson as the show’s biggest ever winner.
However, McClung used to be famous one day only to remain anonymous the remaining 364 days of the year. And the fact is that, at 27 years old, the American has never managed to establish himself in an NBA in which he has barely played 17 games, tossing around different franchises with contracts two-way: Since he was not drafted in 2021, he has gone through the Lakers, Bulls, Philadelphia 76ers, Orlando Magic, Indiana Pacers and again some Bulls who did not renew him in June.
Apart from his unforgettable shows at the All-Star, standing out for the audacity and creativity of his dunks, Mac McClung has established himself in recent years as a superstar of the G-League, although the NBA affiliate league does not have as much media impact. McClung won the G-League in 2023 with the Delaware Blue Coats – the Sixers’ second team – but, above all, he has made history as the first player to win two MVPs and as the record holder for scoring in a single game with 59 points.
However, and after several attempts in the NBA, the point guard would be looking to start once and for all a stable career outside the G-League and Europe could be a good place to do so. The journalist Donatas Urbonas already announced that McClung had aroused the interest of several Euroleague teams and Europe in general and McClung could end up playing for Girona, presided over by an NBA legend like Marc Gasol.
