Audi aims to fight for the F1 title in 2030
Mattia Binotto, the strong man of the German brand’s arrival in the World Cup in 2026, explained the objectives that are set during the presentation of the decoration in Munich.
Mattia Binotto spent almost 28 years at Ferrari and held the position of director of the Scuderia from 2019 to 2022. The lack of success in the only team with a perfect presence in all F1 seasons ejects anyone from the position held by the Swiss and that Frédéric Vasseur occupies today. It didn’t take long for Binotto to find a job: he was recruited by Audi to occupy the position of director of the Audi F1 project, the brand that Sauber already bought and which It will officially arrive for the 2026 season, which will arrive with new technical regulations for the cars and engines.
This week, the brand that belongs to VW presented this week in Munich the decoration that the cars will wear next year. During the event, Binotto spoke about the objectives of the team, which will maintain its main base in Hinwill and will debut in the World Championship in Australia.
“I think that next year we will experience one of the biggest changes in recent decades, perhaps in the last 30 years; we have not seen such a drastic change. It is like starting from scratch for everyone, so starting from scratch represents an opportunity.”Binotto began.
Of course, the start of a new regulation always generates intrigue. “Someone can do it well, someone can do it badly. Starting from scratch means that we all start from the base in terms of the technical challenge and that, without a doubt, is an opportunity. But, on the other hand, I am fully aware that we compete against established organizations, very strong competitors. Those who win today do so because they are strong, they are well organized and they have all the assets, resources and tools necessary to be the best and that will continue to be the case. PTherefore, I think that at Audi we continue to fight, especially at the beginning, against very strong competitors. And we should never underestimate its strength. Now, having said that, we have ambitions and we are Audi.”
Audi plans to fight for the title in 2030. For the start, the driver duo will be the same as Sauber has today. Nico Hülkenberg and Gabriel Bortoleto. In addition, Jonathan Wheatley, with 18 years of experience at Red Bull, will be the team director, a position he currently holds in the team founded by Peter Sauber. The challenge is close to beginning.
