ASVEL already ‘forgets’ about Sylvain Francisco and announces a signing of Campanillas

Despite the setback caused by the drastic budget reduction that forced the entity to change its plans for 2026-27 and give up several agreed signings, ASVEL Villeurbanne has made moves in the market to incorporate a veteran into its ranks for the current season.

Patty Mills, who made the step to European basketball with La Laguna Tenerife of the Endesa League, has been announced as the new signing of ASVEL, which will be directed by her former teammate in the San Antonio Spurs and friend Tony Parker. The 37-year-old Australian point guard, with almost two decades as a professional behind him, respected his verbal agreement with the French club despite the financial difficulties suffered this summer and signed for one season.

During this summer market, ASVEL Villeurbanne has seen objectives such as Sylvain Francisco or Daniel Theis have eluded them, as well as those of Armoni Brooks and Nick Weiler-Babb, who went on loan to Valencia Basket and Estrella Roja this upcoming 2026-27 campaign despite having agreed to sign with the French team.

Mills, champion with the Spurs in 2014 and one of the most illustrious players in the entire history of Australian basketball and with his national team, will play his second year in Europe after finishing last year with Tenerife. The veteran ‘Aussie’ point guard, with experience in teams such as Trail Blazers, Spurs, Nets, Heat, Hawks, Jazz and Clippers, will now join the project of his friend Tony Parker, who took the reins of the ASVEL bench since this summer.
