Argentine Irene Presenqui, chosen as Referee of the year
The International Federation announced this Tuesday who were the winners of the Best Referee of 2025 award and In the female branch, an Argentine woman won the award.
“Irene Presenqui has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to elite refereeing, debuting in the 2010 World Cup at just 25 years old. Throughout a brilliant 15-year career, he has refereed in four World Cups and four Olympic Games, consistently delivering world-class performance on hockey’s most important stages,” the parent entity published.
In 2024, Irene made history by becoming the first woman to referee a men’s Olympic match.. This season she was also part of the Pro League, the Pan American Cup and joined as a substitute referee in the Junior World Cup.
But his work is not limited by the lines of the court. Outside of it it continues. As a sports psychologist she has given workshops and presentations on mental health and performance, including sessions in Singapore, virtual presentations for Asia and mentoring activities during the League in London. Their combination undoubtedly makes it a reference in terms of dispensing justice.
Male Referee of the Year: Raghu Prasad (India)
Since his debut in 2003, Raghu has officiated on every continent and in every major tournament, including four FIH Hockey World Cups and three Olympic Games, a record few can match.
