Antonio Cordón returns to Olympiacos with Imanol

Imanol Alguacil take the reins of Olympiacos, one day after the dismissal of José Luis Mendilibar, and the Greek club also announced today that another Spaniard, Antonio Cordón, returns as sports director.

Imanol has already led his first training session and his great supporter is Antonio Cordón, the new sports director, a position he already held in the 2023-2024 season, when Olympiacos was proclaimed champion of the Conference League.

Cordón has experience in Villarreal (2000-2016), Monaco (2016-2017), Ecuadorian Football Federation (2020), Betis (2020-2023) and Sevilla, his last club from 2025 until last May.

Mendilibar’s dismissal came after those from Piraeus tied away from home with Volos FC (1-1) on the third day of the Greek league after losing in the qualifying phase of the Champions League against NEC Nijmegen.

Last season the red and whites finished second in the Greek league, behind the champion AEK Athens, and they were also eliminated from the Greek Cup. Olympiacos is the most awarded Greek team with 48 Greek league titles and 29 Greek Cups.
