Andreeva imposes her authority and returns to the Beijing quarters

Mirra Andreeva (number 5 in the WTA ranking), fourth favorite and pupil of the Spanish Conchita Martínez, She defeated the Ukrainian Daria Snigur (number 46) this Tuesday by a double 6-2 and reached the quarterfinals of the China Open.

The Russian needed one hour and four minutes on the hard court of the Diamond center in Beijing to stop an opponent who had three wins in four matches against players ranked among the top ten in the world.

The Roland Garros champion marked distances from the beginning. He broke in the first game and maintained his advantage with a serve that barely left Snigur any options, unable to add to the rest until the sixth game. The Russian combined parallel blows, backhanded changes and five direct serves in that round, including one with a second serve.

At 3-2, a winning return from the forehand opened another break opportunity and the pressure ended up causing a reverse into the Ukrainian’s net. Andreeva then closed the set with her serve.

The second set began with two new breaks and a 3-0, although Snigur responded with greater depth to the rest and better resolved attacks on the net to get closer to 3-2.

The reaction ended there. Andreeva regained control, broke again after insisting on three chances and sentenced on her first match point.

The Russian equals her 2024 Beijing quarterfinals and reaches the eleventh of her career in a WTA 1000. She will seek the semifinals against the winner of the duel between the Czech Linda Noskova (n.6) and the Russian Ekaterina Alexandrova (n.28).
