All football suspended in Uruguay!

Uruguayan football activity was suspended in all its categories after violent events were recorded this Saturday in a Second Division match between rentiers and Cerrito corresponding to the eleventh day. A statement from the Uruguayan Mutual of Professional Soccer Players says that the activity is stopped “as a consequence of the reprehensible and unacceptable acts of violence that occurred after the match between Rentistas and Cerrito, which caused serious injuries to a teammate.”

The document adds that the strike will be valid “until there are effective guarantees” that allow the work of all those involved to be carried out “in safe conditions.” Rentistas and Cerrito played a match that ended in a goalless draw although with controversy over a disallowed goal, a fact that left the atmosphere heated and at the end of the match there were incidents that were even reported by the local team.

The ‘colorado’ team reported through a statement that it will present a formal complaint against the refereeing body headed by Bruno Sacarelo and his assistant Daniel Rodríguez. The club affirms that the refereeing was “manifestly biased and partial” and assures that its performance “deliberately harmed” Rentistas and directly influenced the development of the match.

In this way, the matches scheduled for this Sunday corresponding to the sixth date of the Intermediate Tournament of the First Division between Central Español and Cerro Largo, Cerro against Racing, Montevideo City Torque and Danubio and Defensor Sporting -Liverpool must be rescheduled.
