Alex Cora, Red Sox Manager, confirmed Rafael Devers as his batter already designated Alex Bregman as his third base

Rafael Devers will be the main designated batter of the Boston Red Sox this season, leaving the third base for the newcomer Alex Bregman.

The Red Sox manager, the Puerto Rican, Alex CoraHe confirmed team’s plans on Wednesday during an interview with Weei Sports Radio and added that this decision shows that Boston is “in the winning business.”

Cora’s announcement occurred almost two weeks after Devers retracted his position from the beginning of this spring, when he declared that the third base was “my position” after Bregman’s signature by the Red Sox. The three times all stars declared on March 13 that he was “willing to do whatever”, even if that meant being designated.

“We made a decision,” Cora told Weei on Wednesday. “Alex will play in third base, Raffy will be the designated batter. We are all in the winning business, and (devers) understands.”

Bregman won the golden glove of the American League last season in Third Base, where Devers has had bad philient statistics over the years. Devers has led the American League or has been tied in the leadership in errors, three times, in the last seven seasons.

Playing with Bregman in Third Base also allows Boston to yield the second -based base position to the star prospect Kristian Campbell, who was announced earlier this week as part of the roster of the opening day of the season.

Devers hit .272 with 28 homers and 83 races promoted last season, despite complaining pain on both shoulders. The Red Sox signed Bregman, twice All-Star, with a three-year contract and 120 million dollars last month.
