“Alcaraz can surpass Djokovic’s record in Grand Slams”: Serena Williams and her forceful statement
Carlos Alcaraz (1st in the world ranking) arrived on the professional circuit to occupy the places left by the Big 3with the retirements of Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal and the last flashes of Novak Djokovic. The Murcian, at just 22 years old, already threatens to challenge the marks achieved by the three greatest tennis players of all time.
Alluding to this, Serena Williamsone of the best players in history at the WTA level, was consulted by ABC in an exclusive interview about whether the Spaniard has a chance of winning more Grand Slam tournaments than Djokovic, who owns the record, with 24 consecrations.
“Alcaraz is doing incredible things. I’m a big fan of him, I always encourage him. At this point, anything is possible. When Federer started, no one thought he could surpass Sampras, and he did. Then Rafa (Nadal) did the same and then Djokovic. Carlos is very young, he has great rivals, but of course it is possible to surpass Novak“, began.
“Records are meant to be broken“concluded the youngest of the Williams sisters, who has 23 majors in singles, 14 in doubles and two more in mixed doubles.
For now, continuing with the news of the men’s circuit, Alcaraz must overcome the only major obstacle he presents: Jannik Sinner (2nd). Both the Spaniard and the Italian have been sharing the Grand Slam trophies from 2024 to the present (four per side since then).
