The start of the 2026 season Formula One was not what was expected Franco Colapinto not even for the team Alpine. After the first two free practice sessions of the Australian Grand Prix, Colapinto closed the day on Friday in 18th place among the 20 drivers who turnedwhile his partner Pierre Gasly finished 16th. The times reflected a considerable difference compared to the most competitive teams of the day.

However, a video in the pits of the Albert Park circuit in Melbourne at the end of training was even more worrying than the poor performance of the car.

As soon as he got out of the car in the second practice, Franco was assisted by a team assistant during the walk to the Alpine work offices. He placed drops in his eyes and moved with some discomfort due to this inconvenience. In the press release released by the Enstone-based team, he clarified: “I had a little problem with some dry ice and debris in my eye at the end of the second free practice session! Fortunately, it wasn’t too serious and there’s no real cause for concern.”

“They threw dry ice at me and it burned part of my eye a little, but I’m better now. I have anesthesia, but now with some creams and some drops I think I’ll walk better. At the moment the dry ice doesn’t melt, it stays inside you. It’s all chemical. It burns you, it burned part of me. Now I’m fine, I see better than before little by little. So don’t worry about tomorrow.”he said in an interview with Cadena 3.

Colapinto was 16th in FP1 with 1:23.325, ahead of his teammate Gasly (1:24.035) and they reversed the roles in FP2: the Argentine was 18th with 1:22.619 and the Frenchman 16th with 1:22.167. It should be noted that, despite the concern for his health that was generated by these shots in the pits, Colapinto completed the day in control of the car and was only assisted once the day was closed.
