The card 2025 Topps Chrome Dual MVP Gold Logoman —featuring game-used patches pulled from the Aaron Judge and Shohei Ohtani t-shirtsnumbered as a unique piece (1 of 1) and signed directly on the card by the current ones MVPIt has been sold through Fanatics Collect for 2.16 million dollars.

It is about the fourth modern baseball card (category that usually covers from 1980 to the present) most expensive ever sold at an auction.

This card is the result of a collaboration that began a year ago between Topps, the MLB and Nike, which involves the winners of the league’s awards. Last December, a unique card (1 of 1) of Ohtani —signed directly on the card and incorporating a patch from this program—sold for $3 million. This card, along with Mike Trout’s rookie card (sold for $3.936 million) and the Judge (sold a week ago for $5.2 million—the highest figure ever paid for a modern baseball card—), are the only modern cards of this sport that have surpassed the barrier of 3 million dollars at auction.

“(The program) came about in response to what we always look for: genuine authenticity, especially when it comes to patches,” Kevin Lenane, vice president of the Fanatics Collect marketplace, told AM850. “There are player-worn patches, game-worn patches, and patches tied to specific events. There’s something truly special about a collector being able to connect to a particular event through the materials used in it.”

The Ohtani and Judge card incorporates patches used in matches played during the 2025 season. According to the description of the lot on Fanatics Collect, the patch Ohtani It comes from the jersey he wore on May 26 in the game against the Cleveland Guardians, a game in which he hit his 19th home run of the season. For its part, the patch Judge It corresponds to a game played on May 30 against the Los Angeles Dodgers, a game in which he hit a double and, coincidentally, also his 19th home run of the season.

From the year 2022, both Ohtani as Judge have won three MVP awards each. Ohtaniwho also won one in 2021, ranks second all-time behind Barry Bonds (7), while Judge is tied with 10 other three-time MVPs: Yogi Berra, Roy Campanella, Joe DiMaggio, Jimmie Foxx, Mickey Mantle, Stan Musial, Albert Pujols, Alex Rodriguez, Mike Schmidt and Mike Trout.

Lenane says there are “more collectors than ever” today, including players who collect both their own items and those of others.

“The player knows that this item will end up on a card, and I’ve found that almost every athlete—from the kid who’s still in college, to the rookie, to the rookie, to the superstar—is curious about the process and where their collectibles go,” Lenane said. “Players are acutely aware of debut patches; it’s part of the athlete experience these days. Everyone is curious about it given how well the market has performed.”
