URBA returns: the new format that will be implemented for categories

The Rugby Union of Buenos Aires will return with its action this weekend, with the return from First to Second Division: For them there will be changes in the format of the tournaments, with new promotions and descents.

Except for third and development, Categories of the upper division tournaments will be made up of 14 teams from 2026. Depending on this, it was determined that, at the end of the 2025 season, the teams that end in positions 1 and 2 of the First A, First B, First C, second and third categories will amount directly to the immediate superior category.

In addition, in terms of a potential descent or third ascent, the URBA He confirmed that, at the end of the tournaments of the 2025 season, the teams that occupy the 12th position of the Top 12 and the 14th first A, First B, First C position and second will play matches of “Play Off” with the teams classified in positions 3 °, 4th and 5th of the immediate immediate division in order to define discharge and/or potential third ascent of category.

Regarding this, two elimination games will be played and the winner of both games will maintain the category or ascend to the upper category as the case may be. In relation to categories TErcera and Developmentthe Commission Commission will evaluate the conditions of art. 38 of the Official Competencies Regulation and depending on what resolves in this regard, it will determine the composition of the categories, type of tournament and their mobility.
