Fenerbahçe announces its new coach
The former forward of Liverpool Dirk Kuyt will assume command of Fenerbahce on an interim basis after the resignation of Ismail Kartal, as reported this Wednesday by the Turkish Super League club. Kartal left his position on Tuesday, following Fenerbahçe’s 2-1 defeat against bitter rival Galatasaray. Kuyt made more than 200 appearances for Liverpool before joining Fenerbahçe in 2012, with whom he won the Turkish league title two years later.
The 46-year-old Dutchman previously managed Belgian club Beerschot, as well as ADO Den Haag and FC Dordrecht in the Netherlands, before joining Fenerbahçe in June as Kartal’s assistant coach. “Following the resignation of Ismail Kartal, our club has appointed Dirk Kuyt as technical supervisor of the first football team until it is determined who will be the new head coach,” Fenerbahçe said in a statement.
