Pitched battle with police intervention in the Istanbul derby

In Spain the football classic is FC Barcelona – Real Madrid; while in Türkiye the most anticipated match is Galatasaray – Fenerbahce. A derby full of a rivalry that was more than evident in a match that ended with an embarrassing image on the part of both clubs.

Turkish football is synonymous with tension due to the intensity with which each match is experienced, and especially in the match marked on the calendar between Galatasaray and Fenerbahçe. The derby this Monday was won by the team Okan Buruk at home, 2-1. However, the result was the least important after the brawl that broke out after the final whistle: attacks, expulsions and police intervention.

The rivalry between both clubs is historic, and the fight after the match was something that could be intuited. The game was tense from the beginning, and it only took the referee to end the match for everything to explode into the air. A heated discussion between Kerem Aktürkoglu and Roland Sallai sparked the beginning of the confrontation. The players ended up getting hooked, causing both teams to end up involved in a pitched battle with totally excessive violence.

Neck grabs, kicks, pushes, punches… everything seemed to count after the Turkish match. The situation became so extreme that the intervention of police and stadium security was necessary to separate the players.

Archie BrownFenerbahçe defender, spoke after the match, further fueling the war between both clubs: “They grabbed me by the hair, it was the captain of Galatasaray, and I went to defend Guendouzi. They scratch like women, that’s what they do.”

A disagreement that began on the field of play, continued in the mixed zone and continued later on social networks, where Galatasaray celebrated their victory and attacked Fenerbahçe: “With no intention of playing football because they can’t. They only tried to create chaos and the most bitter losers of all time are them. Every year is a desperate show, but it always ends with the same result. You are destined to lose.”

A rivalry between both teams that once again gives something to talk about, and not precisely because of the minutes played, but because of the pitched battle that broke out right after and that does not seem to be the end of the historical tension between Galatasaray and Fenerbahçe.
