Samu Castillejo leaves football at 31 years old
Samu Castillejo, only 31 years old, announced this Saturday his retirement from professional football. The man from Malaga puts an end to a career marked by a talented left foot, self-confidence and an ability to unbalance that turned him into a footballer that leaves no one indifferent. Injuries and physical problems, however, prevented him from having the necessary continuity to exploit his full potential.
Raised in the Málaga youth academy, Castillejo debuted with the first team in the 2014-15 season and soon became one of the great appearances of the Andalusian team. His performance opened the doors of Villarreal, where he continued to grow before making the jump to Milan in 2018. At San Siro he experienced one of the most important stages of his career, playing more than a hundred games and winning the Scudetto in the 2021-22 season.
After his time at Milan, he played for Valencia and Sassuolo before trying his luck in Malaysia with Johor. Without a team since last year, the winger has decided to put an end to his career at just 31 years old. A footballer with plenty of talent is leaving, but his injuries affected him too much and prevented him from enjoying the continuity he so needed.
