Rune’s shocking ranking after losing 1,000 positions at once

He ATP Tour It is demanding, a jungle with many good players fighting every week for each ranking point, an inexorable judge to place each one in their place. Each classification includes the results of the last 52 weeks, without distinguishing exceptions. If there is a long-term injury, a fall is inevitable, there is hardly any margin.

This system causes a not so long ago world number four to lose another 1,010 positions from a ranking, moving from 195th to 1,205th, when a year ago he was tenth, more in line with his top level of tennis.

He has gone from having 300 points to 10, when in October 2026 he had 3,180, just when he ruptured his Achilles tendon during the semifinals in Stockholm.

Holger Rune23 years old, entered the hell most feared by an athlete, an injury for many months. The generation rival Carlos Alcaraz He suffered a new setback in his attempt to one day catch up with his equal in the youth team.

Both maintain a close relationship, so much so that they met at the Real Sociedad Club de Campo de Murcia to finalize their comebacks. Carlos Alcarazafter hard days of training and match rehearsal with Holger Runedecided to return at the US Open, while the Scandinavian preferred to leave New York.

Rune returned in the Davis Cup, September 14, beating the Bulgarians Iliyan Radulov and Grigor Dimitrov. A house party that has not had continuity in ATP. He has lost both of his matches in his return.

They fell 6-3 and 6-1 against Kyrian Jacquet in Tokyo, apologizing to his fans through social networks for his poor performance. He improved in Shanghai, but gave in to the German Daniel Altmaier by 1-6, 7-6 (5) and 6-4.

Holger Rune does not enter any table directly, not even in the preliminary phase, he must use the so-called protected ranking, which is applied when a player has been absent for so many months – practically a year -. You will access the tables with the same one, the one you had when you stopped playing.

In addition, you will seek to complete the protected ranking options with the invitations you receive in the different tournaments that grant your request. I had one for this week in the Brussels ATPbut ended up giving it up.
