Tottenham finally wins and escapes relegation at the expense of Arbeloa

Seven days had to pass for the Tottenham of Roberto De Zerbi achieved his first win of the season in the Premier League. It was finally a perfect night for the Spurs fans, who in addition to celebrating the long-awaited victory against the promoted Frank Lampard’s Coventry (3-1), celebrated the great goal of James Maddison in his first game as a starter since his serious knee injury in August 2025.

After having a stage in Marbella last week, Tottenham leaves the relegation zone, with 6 points, and plunges into it again to Álvaro Arbeloa’s Fulham, who, with 5, had come out of the hole on Saturday with his victory against the Hull (1-0). Coventry, also with 6, is 17th and marks the permanence.

Tottenham took control of the match but their dominance did not translate at times until Maddison appeared on the scene, who received the ball from Mohammed Kudus and without stopping he placed a wonderful right foot into the top corner from the edge of the area (14′).

Seriously injured in a knee in a pre-season friendly in August 2025, Maddison had not been a starter since April of that year, when he scored against the Liverpool in the Premier. Seventeen months later he celebrated his return to the eleven with a spectacular goal.

Tottenham advanced for the first time this season in a Premier match but still had to suffer to secure the three points since at the beginning of the second half Coventry in a poorly defended play by the ‘spurs’.

Rudoni ties but Marmoush responds

It was in a carom that he had Jack Rudoni as protagonist. His first shot was misdirected but it bounced off a teammate, the ball fell at his feet again and, given the passivity of the defense, he shot Antonin Kinsky (50′).

The ghosts returned but Tottenham did not take long this time to advance on the scoreboard. Omar Marmoush received from Andy Robertson and, after involuntarily hitting him in the face in his struggle with Milan van Ewijkthe Egyptian placed a great shot from the edge of the box against the post (59′). It is his first goal since he arrived in the summer on loan from Manchester City.

Roberto De Zerbi frustrated the fans by removing the idolized Maddison to make way for Conor Gallagher in an attempt to give his team more muscle and not expose a vital victory.

Kulusevski also returns after his long absence

Tottenham ended up securing the three points and the fans were able to celebrate another great news: the return of another of their favorite players, Dejan Kulusevski, who reappeared in the last minutes instead of the limping Marmoush after his serious knee injury in May 2025.

In the addition Ben Davies, assisted in short by Dominic Solanke made it 3-1 with an outside shot from the balcony of the area that beat Carl Rushworth.
