Medvedev shoots towards Jódar in Shanghai

The Russian Daniil Medvedev in pure essence, with his double version on the court. Capable of being an intractable rival, then giving away a set and getting back to work to save the day in the third round. He will be where he wanted, in the semifinals of the Shanghai ATP Masters 1000, this Saturday, with a double Spanish presence.

At 10:30 a.m. the German Alexander Zverev and Alejandro Davidovich will open. Later, not before 1:00 p.m., it will be the turn of Daniil Medvedev and Rafa Jódar, an unprecedented duel in the ATP.

The Muscovite, 30 years old and number 6, beat the American Tommy Paul 6-3, 1-6 and 6-3 in 2h.08′. He maintains his good streak in China. They have won 11 of their 12 duels this season in this country. He opened with the Hangzhou title, was disqualified in the Beijing semifinals when Novak Djokovic served, and he continues ahead in Shanghai.

Of the four survivors, Medvedev is the only one who already appears in the event’s record, which he dominated in 2019. He is the leader in matches won on hard court this year with 34, one more than Alexander Zverev, who has the most wins overall with 62.

The Russian takes a step forward to have a ticket for the ATP Finals, the same one that Rafa Jódar is pursuing, again on the list of starters by leaving Alex de Miñaur and Novak Djokovic behind with his victory over Casper Ruud by 4-6, 6-4 and 6-3.
