Markus Howard says goodbye to Baskonia
Four seasons later, Markus Howard’s run with Baskonia has come to an end. The American shooting guard, who was no longer in Paolo Galbiati’s plans, will close his time with the Vitoria club and will soon join Dusko Ivanovic’s Zenit Saint Petersburg, with whom he already played in the Basque entity and who contributed to promoting the best version of the American player since he landed in European basketball.
The operation, confirmed by journalist Óscar Herreros, will help Baskonia free up salary mass, since Howard had a salary slightly higher than two million euros per season until 2028. Even so, the Vitorian club will not receive any transfer fee from Zenit and will continue to pay part of his salary to make his departure viable.
However, since the subsequent arrivals of Pablo Laso and Galbiati, his contribution to the Baskonista team became diluted as the seasons went by, to the point that the club chose to find a way out for him that, on the other hand, would help free up space to try to improve other needs in the squad. Likewise, according to what they point out from Vitoria, the club is also seeking to accelerate the departure of Clement Frisch while waiting to confirm the arrival of reinforcements, and with center Christian Koloko waiting.
Now, with his goodbye to Baskonia, Howard will seek away from the Buesa Arena to recover his best version and have more continuity. The American will fill the gap left by Malik Newman, recently released by Zenit.
