Trouble is brewing for JR Smith. The former player, a two-time NBA champion, was arrested this past Monday, September 28, in Texas after an automatic license plate reader detected the vehicle he was driving and alerted agents about an active arrest warrant.

Smith, 41, had a warrant issued by the Southlake (Texas) Police Department. due to an incident in the area of ​​family violencein which it caused bodily injuries. According to the latest records from the authorities, the former Hornets, Nuggets, Knicks, Cavaliers and Lakers player was jailed until this Tuesday at noon, and was released after setting bail at $5,000.

This is not the first time Smith has been in trouble with the law. In fact, he was already in prison in 2009, when he was sentenced to 90 days in jail – including a 60-day suspension of the sentence – and 500 hours of community service for reckless driving and causing a car accident in which one of his friends died back in 2007.

The former player, recently graduated from North Carolina A&T State University after his retirement, played 16 years in the NBA on different teams. He was selected in the 2004 Draft straight out of high school with pick #18 by the then New Orleans Hornets. He then joined the Denver Nuggets, where he became one of the most prominent reserves in the NBA.
