This is Fernando Alonso’s new millionaire salary at Aston Martin: the best contract of his career

Fernando Alonso and Aston Martin announced this Tuesday that the Asturian driver will continue in F1 with the Silverstone team in 2027, although the Oviedo-born driver made it clear that he could continue driving the green car beyond that year.

Contracts in F1 are private and the details, clauses or amounts received are not usually revealed and, in this case, Aston Martin, as expected, did not communicate Fernando Alonso’s salary after signing his new contract, but Mundo Deportivo has been able to know which the two-time F1 world champion has renewed by signing the best contract of his career, and thus exceeds the fees received annually in his previous adventure at McLaren-Honda, from 2015 to 2018. According to the specialized press, which publishes its list of the highest-paid athletes every year, the Asturian driver earned between 36 and 38 million dollars in that second stage in Woking.

The exact figure has not been revealed, but it would be close to 40 million euros. In this way, Fernando Alonso, at 45 years old, would become one of the highest paid drivers on the F-1 grid, after Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton, and would surpass the current world champion, Lando Norris, and other figures such as Charles Leclerc or the recently renewed Carlos Sainz, who recently increased his salary to around 30 million euros. This would make him the highest paid Spanish athlete according to his base salary.

Despite the results, he manages to get the most out of a car with a very low-power engine, whose limit is well below the Asturian’s driving level and, on tracks with many straights, the car can only be in the lower part of the grid and, on some more twisty circuits, it can fight in the middle area. Therefore, we should not confuse the results achieved this year with the trust that Aston Martin has in him, knowing that if Newey and Honda give him a good weapon, he will be able to take advantage of it.
