Davidovich, champion in Chengdu: “I’m always there for the Davis Cup, but it’s another thing if they call me”

Alexander Davidovichwhich this Tuesday won in Chengdu (China) the second title of his career after beating the Pole Hubert Hurkacz in the final, he highlighted, in conversation with four Spanish media, including Agencia EFE, that although his tennis is “emotional” he is now more “calm” and that he has no clear objectives between now and the end of the season and that he is available for the final phase of the Davis Cup in Bologna although he does not know if he will be summoned.

The Malaga player said that in the tie against Chili the captain, David Ferrercalled him but he couldn’t go with Spain because he was injured.

“I was here in Chengdu during the tie with Chile. Ferrer called me but I’ve been injured. I’m always there for the Davis Cup but it’s another thing if they call me,” stressed the 27-year-old Spanish tennis player.

Davidovich achieved the second title of his career, after Mallorca, after being injured for two and a half months, away from the slopes.

“There have been several tough decisions. After Wimbledon I had to infiltrate my lumbar spine due to a large protrusion. I thought I was going to recover faster and in the end everything was slower than expected but we made good use of that time. At best it came to Cincinnati but when I started playing I had another puncture and I was not recovered. We continue working on strength and technique. This title goes to them because it hasn’t been easy,” he said.

“I was hesitant to play in the US Open. I wanted to but it was difficult to go play five sets, in the heat and it was not advisable. Although he was physically well, he was not one hundred percent and we decided that it was best to continue with the work. We have done a preseason of five or six weeks. I come from Mallorca playing well and I still had that mentality,” analyzed the Spanish player.

Davidovich, who faced Chengdu his seventh final as a professional, he recognized that having already achieved a title after five lost finals, helped him better face this commitment.

“I told my team that I felt good. I didn’t feel pressure. I have won a title. I know how to play. I felt very confident. Everyone loses, others win and I wanted to go out and enjoy. “They have been more or less the same. I wouldn’t know how to tell the difference. I was in Mallorca as if I had already won a tournament and here I have been the same. That has been the key. I didn’t know where my level was but from the first day we trained here I felt very good. The mentality was the same, and the nerves. My game has been the same. I don’t see a clear difference. Here I was looser on the court, I enjoyed it more and there I was more tense,” he acknowledged.
