Roberto Carlos: “I had a very serious family problem, one Thursday I went to sleep and on Friday I received a pile of papers whose existence I did not know, I lost 99% of everything I had earned”
Roberto Carlos He is not the first, nor the last ex-footballer to go bankrupt a few years after hanging up his boots. In his case, also, much sooner than is usual. For this reason, he wanted to take advantage of his presence at the ‘Portugal Football Summit’ to offer a reflection to the youngest people.
“I always thought about the stage after my career. It’s about building a story as a player and taking advantage of your image. When I decided to leave football, I already had a sports director’s license and worked with many brands,” the Brazilian began by saying.
However, bad companies and, above all, bad decisions, led him to bankruptcy: “I had problems with people who left my account at zero. Because of representatives and family issues, I lost 99 percent of everything I had earned in football. I made mistakes and, for that reason, I ask the younger ones not to do the same,” he confessed.
And he went on to relate: “I had a serious problem with my former representative. I had a very serious family problem. One Thursday I went to sleep at midnight and, on Friday, I received a stack of papers I didn’t know existed. “There I lost all my history.”
Fortunately, he did have room to rebuild his life economically speaking before reaching total ruin: “Paul reorganized my life. With ‘Entourage’ I managed to restructure my financial and family life.” But for many others it is already too late.
