Verstappen aligns himself with Alonso in this F1: “Big changes are needed for this to feel normal again”
If anyone has been very critical of this Formula 1 it is Fernando Alonso. The Spaniard said at the Media Day of the Azerbaijan GP that with the regulations that came into force this year “circuits have been murdered” and proposed solutions to improve the sport, starting by removing the weight of electrical energy.
Max Verstappen is undoubtedly the other most critical voice with the current Formula 1. What’s more, the Dutchman did not hide that a few months ago he was considering leaving the Great Circus and going to other disciplines. Finally he chose to stay, but this does not mean that it does not coincide with the diagnosis that Alonso made upon arriving in Baku.
“Reducing the battery power now would surely make it look a little more normal. Overall it would be a major power reduction, so it wouldn’t feel good either. Maybe it would be a little more natural, but big changes are needed so that this feels normal again,” reported Motorsport.com.
Next year, the kilometers that a race lasts will be reduced because greater weight is given to the combustion engine and the electrical power is reduced. The distribution will remain at 58:42 compared to 53:47. Instead of expanding the cars’ tank, it was decided to reduce the number of laps. For Max, it’s not a bad idea if it means less management driving.
“I didn’t design the regulations in the first place. SIf that means we have to run three laps less, I would run 50% less if that would give me a more pleasant engine to drive. If we have to shorten it a little due to consumption, but in exchange we get a better racing experience, I think everyone will accept it,” he concluded forcefully.
Another of the unknowns that existed around Verstappen is knowing if he had the intention of combining F1 with other endurance events because this time, the 2027 Grand Circus season does not coincide with other famous events such as the 24 hours of Le Mans. However, Max will not attend the legendary race in Le Sarthe. “I will surely go to the Nürburgring 24h and Spa, but not Le Mans. “It’s not on my list right now.”
