Joao Fonseca gives up the Asian tour

The Brazilian Joao Fonsecanumber 28 in the ATP rankings, announced this Monday that will not play the next tournaments in Asia to take care of your physical and mental health.

Fonseca published a statement on social media in which he said he made “a great effort” to return to the courts after a series of injuries to defend Brazil in the Davis Cup, but understands that he needs “more time” to fully recover.

“I talked a lot with my team and we came to the conclusion that The best way, at this moment, is to respect the signsgive my body and my head some time and not play the Asian tournaments,” said the tennis player from Rio de Janeiro.

In the Asian stage, Fonseca planned to compete in the ATP 500 in Tokyo and the Masters 1,000 in Shanghai in October.

The 20-year-old tennis player, Brazil’s best racket player, contributed to the 3-0 victory against Switzerland in the Davis Cup last week, defeating Dominic Stricker in their singles match.

Injuries have dogged Fonseca this year, who described the situation as “frustrating” and “a challenge.”

This season, he had to give up participating in the tournaments in Brisbane and Adelaide (Australia) due to lower back pain, Hamburg (Germany) due to shoulder discomfort, and he abandoned the third round in Cincinnati (USA) due to abdominal pain.
