Neves ‘explodes’: “I just hope they don’t go to pray after what they have done… God has seen them”

The Saudi Pro League experienced an embarrassing episode this Saturday. It was in the duel between Al Taawon and Al Hilal, which ended with an overwhelming visitor victory (0-6). And of course, as you can imagine, that didn’t sit well with the local fans.

But, instead of paying it forward with their players (as would have been normal), they focused their attacks on the Al Hilal footballers. Or, rather, in Ruben Nevesto whom they dedicated chants of “Jota, Jota”, in reference to his best friend Diogo Jota, who died in a terrible traffic accident in July 2025.

The Portuguese footballer responded by applauding and nodding his head repeatedly, in a gesture of irony. Afterwards, he ‘exploded’ before the media in a mixed zone:

“I just hope they don’t go to pray after what they did today… God has seen them,” he said without stopping as he walked past the journalists.
